HOW CAN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY HELP MY CHILD?

Occupational Therapists are health professionals trained to help people meaningfully participate in all activities that are important for them. Paediatric Occupational Therapists review development, current performance and participation in age-appropriate tasks and consider the child and family’s daily experiences to build a picture of needs. We work across a wide range of abilities and needs from birth through to late adolescence.

Neurodevelopmental

Occupational Therapists are well equipped to help advance the skills and daily participation of children with neurodevelopmental conditions. This includes development of Executive Functioning skills such as attention, self-awareness, organisation and emotional regulation. Alongside, fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing and school inclusion and participation. This occurs through a mixture of individualised, child-led therapy, parent coaching and strategy implementation across various environments.

Assessments and Reports

The Play Patch is well equipped to assess your child’s current level of development and needs based on a mixture of clinical observations, various stakeholder reports and standardized assessments. This information can be used to formulate an intervention plan, provide formal recommendations of support to kindergartens, schools and other treating professionals, assist in accessing funding services and formal NDIS reports including Functional Capacity Assessments.

Telehealth

The Play Patch offers Telehealth sessions for children aged 10 years and older, once their needs have been assessed. This is with the goal to provide access to therapy to rural and remote families, or those who require increased flexibility within their busy daily lives. Telehealth sessions often provide a mixture of talk-therapy, executive functioning development, movement-based activities and online-game-based tasks such as Minecraft therapy.
